Your graduation truck guide

Studentflak in English: the graduation truck ride, explained

Studentflak in English is simple: a truck with an open platform, a driver and your class celebrating together after graduation. Many Swedish classes book one for studenten, the graduation day. If the tradition is new to you, this page explains the words you will see in the class chat and the questions worth asking before you agree to pay.

Words you will see in the chat

Studenten is the graduation day. Utspring is the moment the graduates run out of the school to meet their families. Flak is the platform on the truck, and a flakvärd is an adult host who rides along and can reach the driver. Offert means a quote.

If a message uses a word you do not know, ask. Nobody expects you to know the Swedish terms already.

How many fit on one truck

We plan for up to 30 people per platform, so a group of 40 needs two trucks. The exact number for a particular truck is confirmed for that vehicle.

Count the people who actually want to ride, not the whole class list. Some classmates may prefer to meet the group afterwards, and that is fine.

What a quote covers

Our price guide includes the truck, the driver, fuel and cleaning afterwards. Sound is an extra and only included when it is listed. Prices in the guide include VAT. The first figure you get is a preliminary estimate; the final quote follows once town, date and timing are agreed.

A truck is only yours when the booking is confirmed and the deposit is paid. Until then nothing is reserved. Before you pay your share, ask what it covers and how the class handles people who drop out. Our Swedish price guide has the details.

The rules in short

The platform needs a sturdy railing, and any seats in use must be fixed in place. Passengers must be able to reach the driver during the ride. The Swedish Police must be told the route and time in advance, and local rules can close certain streets.

This is background, not approval of a specific ride. Our Swedish rules guide links to the official sources.

Music and the playlist

Most classes play from a phone through the speakers. A sound package means speakers and power; it does not automatically come with a DJ. Suggest songs that matter to you. A good playlist has room for more than one taste in music.

Whoever controls the volume has to turn it down when a host needs to reach the driver.

Clothes, bags and after the ride

Wear shoes you can stand in for hours and plan where your bag will be. Do not assume you can leave things on the truck unless that has been agreed. Check where the ride ends and how you get home or on to the next party.

If the ride is not for you, tell the organiser privately. Our Swedish guide to alternatives lists other ways to celebrate together. You are welcome to write your enquiry to us in English.
